Phillies rout Rockies, prepare for playoffs

The mighty Arden Hills Phillies returned to the scene of one of their worst defeats of the season and played perhaps their best game of the season, defeating the Rockies 11-0 at the mysterious Lily Pond in remote Vadnais Heights last night. The tone was set right away, as the Phillies raced to an early 6-0 lead in the first two innings, adding additional insurance runs later on. Pitching was, in a word, outstanding. All three Phillies pitchers were quite sharp and the Rockies never seriously threatened during the course of the game. This was the same Rockies team that had defeated our Phils 16-5 in the same venue two weeks previously. That’s baseball. My favorite Phillie was 1-4, rapping a sharp single past a diving Rockies second baseman and getting called out on a bang-bang play at first in another at bat.

With the win, the Phillies complete the regular season with a record of 6-8-2; an earlier victory against the Braves was declared a forfeit, costing the team one win and an overall .500 record. Playoffs begin on 7/6, against a yet to be determined opponent (most likely the Angels, Astros or Braves). Further details will be right here.
