Cojones

I'll say this much: Felipe Calderon has 'em:

Mexican President Felipe Calderon took the unusual step Wednesday morning of criticizing an American law while visiting the White House, saying cooperation is needed to fix the US-Mexican immigration issue but "such laws as the Arizona law that is forcing our people to face discrimination. If we are divided, we cannot overcome these problems."
I realize this is crazy talk on my part, but had it occurred to President Calderon that maybe, just maybe it means something that up to 20 million of his "people" had left his country, in many cases risking life and limb to do it? What does that say about conditions in Mexico? If he were worried about discrimination, perhaps he might want to make life a little better for his own citizenry. It's a thought.

And while we're thinking out loud, would it have occurred to President Obama to maybe, just maybe suggest that perhaps Mr. Calderon might want to consider getting his own house in order a bit before offering such a critique? I'm sorry -- more of that crazy talk again.

Cojones? Not so much. Complaining about America to Obama is like giving a pound of catnip to a tabby.

This is of course George Bush's fault.

What WB says. I think "chutzpah" fits it better--sheer gall, like the guy who asked the court for mercy after being convicted of murdering his parents because (sob) he was an orphan.

And as much as I want to get a decent fence on the border, and to repatriate criminals, I have to admit Calderon is probably between a rock and a hard place. If the U.S. ever enforces its laws, he's probably got a revolution on his hands.

I read in the Wall Street Journal today that Mr. Calderon is blaming the United States gun laws on escalating the war on drugs in Mexico. While there may some truth to this, Mr. Calderon has done next to nothing to secure his border to keep these weapons from entering his country.

Mexico has ignored their drug problem for years, hasn't trained an effective military, and now their drug war is America's problem.

There are many fingers to point, one of which is America's incessant desire for illicit drugs.

Instead of publicly decrying America as the problem, go home, clean your house, and privately ask America to do the same.

Gerry, if you're still reading, think about the gun thing again; Mexican drug smugglers can get a fully automatic AK-47 for a few hundred bucks at the weapons bazaars in developing countries where they buy their "cargo." In contrast, they can spend twice that much and get a semi-automatic pistol here in the U.S.

Now I know drugs impede mental function, but I think even dopers can figure this one out.
