Nope

It's caucus night in Minnesota. I'm not going this year. I've been trying to keep a greater distance from party politics in the last few years and this is the year to make a clean break. I'm not particularly happy with any of the presidential candidates on offer, and on the local level it really doesn't matter much because the DFL so utterly controls my district that we could offer up Jesus Christ as the candidate in District 41B and He'd still lose 60-40 to whatever Education Minnesota acolyte the local machine chooses to run this time. Maybe I'll feel differently in the fall, but I doubt it.

Our philosophical differences aside, I'm genuinely sorry to hear you feel this way (though I cannot say that I blame you.)

It's bad for all of us when the engaged become less so.

I'm going to stand against the Combover for Rubio. Rubio's not perfect, but combover, beyond being likely a dirty trick by the Clintons, would take us to be a banana republic in all the nasty connotations of the word--nations that have been stereotyped as such would ask us for an apology since our example would be so much worse.

You are missing a great opportunity. Since the GOP "straw poll" this year is actually binding on the National Delegates from your Congressional District, your vote has a disproportionate impact. And I remind you that failure to vote for the lesser of two evils allows the greater evil to triumph.

I agree. I view this as more of a tactical retreat. I was tempted to caucus for Cruz, but while he hits the right notes on policy he's not able to get cooperation from his own party, which would leave him without much of a path to getting things done. Rubio is too much of a lightweight for my tastes — I'd like to see him go back to Florida and run for governor first. Everyone else is a nonstarter for me.

I don't see a lesser evil, dude. I see failures in variety of flavors.

A vote for Cruz is a vote for open borders and everything it brings... And a vote against the labor class... So f you very much.

OK, then perhaps a PT Barnum quote (since this race is a circus). "Yer pays your money and yer takes yer choice." You're paying for it, like it or not. You may as well have some say in the matter.

And I'll say what I've told everybody else. I like Cruz and thought he was the best choice, the natural heir to Trump's "outsider" appeal when Trump dropped or was forced out. I think he's the smartest guy in the race, clearly the most principled (always a bit dangerous in a candidate), but lacking a certain charm. Rubio, OK and actually better on policy, but he looks like a kid and I still don't trust him on immigration.

The elephant in the room is Trump, and I have vacillated. I never was intending to vote for him, considering his a Vanity Candidacy. Then I came to admire his ability to cut through the PC crap and force the media to cover every word he said, thus increasing his standing among those, including me, who see the media as the problem. Then I switched the other way, disturbed by his complete lack of specifics and even, apparently, knowledge of policy. But I recently went to his website and found some very reasonable, specific and do-able policy proposals that I liked. I was confused until just today, when I hear the Star Tribune publishes a positive semi-endorsement. We are down to the matter of electability.

You can like him or hate him, but whatever he says he can or actually can do, it doesn't mean squat unless he can get elected. Have you noticed how the "news" media like to "help" Republicans pick their nominee? For months, they will say tolerable things about their chosen and a few bad things about his opponents. Sometimes they will create a "frontrunner," tear him down, and THEN go on to their milquetoast favorite, just before the votes start piling up. Trump has changed that game. He himself has said such outrageous things the media fall all over themselves covering him, hoping he will tear himself down, and the only thing that has happened is he has become more popular for taking them on. But the media playbook is still intact. Once Trump has the nomination they will be revisiting and amplifying everything he has or will say, with negative spin if necessary, and destroy his candidacy not with "independents" or Democrats, but with Republicans and conservatives, enough to give Hillary the win. See, Democrats generally don't care about character or policy or promises and vote Democrat. Republicans and independents generally do, and TOO often do not vote for someone they see as "flawed" in some way. I won't vote (now) for Trump because I think he would lose to Hillary, as hard to believe as that sounds.

Gino? Any good reason for your concern? I haven't seen it.

From TedCruz.org

" Border security is national security. We need to secure the border once and for all. We need to stop Obama’s amnesty and enforce the rule of law. And we need to reform legal immigration to protect American workers.

It’s not that we don’t know how to solve illegal immigration. What is missing is the political will to get it done. As President, Ted Cruz will do what he says. He will stop illegal immigration. He will build a wall that works, triple border security, and put in place the surveillance and biometric tracking to secure the border.

Ted Cruz will end Obama’s amnesty on day one, will end catch-and-release, increase deportations, stop sanctuary policies, and strengthen E-verify.

In order to protect our national security and serve American workers, he will suspend and audit H-1B visas and halt any increase in legal immigration so long as American unemployment remains unacceptably high.

Cruz led the fight in Congress to defeat the Gang of Eight amnesty bill, he has introduced strong legislation to stop illegal immigration, and he has outlined a detailed immigration plan to protect Americans.

and from MarcoRubio.com:

" Cancel President Obama’s unconstitutional executive orders

Eliminate federal funding for sanctuary cities

Deport criminal illegal aliens

Hire 20,000 new Border Patrol agents

Finish all 700 miles of walls on our southern border

Implement an entry-exit visa tracking system

Implement a mandatory eVerify system

Install $4 billion in new cameras and sensors on the border"

I will caucus tonight, but my straw poll ballot for president will be as empty as my hopes.

Given Drumpf's 77% lie rate as rated by Politifact, I would argue that a vote for Drumpf is definitely a vote for open borders. Just ask anyone familiar with how he built Drumpf Tower; with illegal immigrant labor and ignoring basic safety regulations while bribing contractors to stay quiet.

If you're a working man, you need to fear Mr. Drumpf (we'll use his real name since he picked on John Stewart for changing his name) more than any other candidate.

No claim that others are that great. It's just that combover is just plain scary.

You have an open Congressional seat and a slate of candidates who have very different views. If I lived in your district, I would caucus, too. But there's no suspense in my area at all. No one needs my advice on which candidate marches into the bayonet.
