Draft Day One

Quickly:

  • Da Bearz drafted a speed rusher. Is he strong enough to hold the point?
  • The Lions drafted a tackle who will play for ten years.
  • The Vikings drafted a receiver who is either Dez Bryant or a step too slow and can't stretch the field.
  • The Packers drafted another UCLA guy who should be better than the last UCLA guy they drafted. Or so they hope.
Discuss.

I knew the bears were going faster/speedier on D, so this guy fits the plan. But like you said... Is he strong enough? The brass must think so.

Wasn't Hundley the last UCLA guy the Pack drafted? He was a rookie 3rd-string QB last year, but filled a need. This year's model will likely have more impact (and if he eats up blockers he'll make whoever the Pack eventually move to ILB more effective).

And, really, what is the difference between a guy who runs a 4.6 and a guy who runs a 4.5 that makes one guy fast and the other guy slow? That's less than a yard over a 40 yard race (not that you run 40 yards in a burst in the NFL that often). Fast doesn't help much if you don't catch the ball - no matter how far you are behind the defender.

I didn't pay attention to whoever the Bears and Lions drafted. But then, I don't typically go out of my way to look at car crashes, either.

I should have been more precise. I was thinking of Datone Jones, who in his fourth year is still a project.

And the Vikings drafted the first European player - a German. And he is a Vikings fan! He should be acquainted with suffering then.
