Brad dispatches the Nerd Prom

I was going to write about The Leader of the Free World's decision to blow off the Nerd Prom (a/k/a The White House Correspondents' Dinner), but the esteemed Brad Carlson has that one covered:
In other words, it's no different than these Hollywood award shows where smug, self-important individuals gather together to stroke each others' egos.

What's most pathetic is that these media types are so needy that they showed up to the 2014 event despite revelations of their colleagues at the Associated Press being spied on by the Obama White House the previous year. Yet some of these same people threatened to pull out of this year's dinner due to President Trump being a big meanie.
As Brad astutely notes, they are frauds. Brad's conclusion is exactly right -- hit the link and read it for yourself.

In a free society the press genie will not be put back into the bottle. Who, in the end, will be running the nation? The press or our democratically elected govt?

Personally, I don’t want the genie back in the bottle. I just want some honesty out of the MSM. The vast majority of people in media lean left. I just would appreciate it if they’d admit as much and drop the crap about objectivity. They lie about their role and then claim Trump is a liar because he’s calling them out on their lies.

I’m less worried about the power of the press than I am about the Deep State, except to the extent the press carries water for the Deep State.

"[E]xcept to the extent the press carries water for the Deep State."

That's a rather big "except". ;-)

It is a gigantic “except.” It’s why I have no problem with Trump’s bashing the media. They deserve it. I would say this, though — if the media did a 180° turn and started attacking the Deep State, I don’t think the Deep State would suffer as much as it ought to.

I don't think the Deep State would suffer it at all. If they think Trump's harassment is bad, just wait until they get the Rearden Steel treatment.

One wonders what the MSM could do against the deep state. Identify leakers instead of publishing them? Would be fun to watch as the rats fled the ship, but I don't see it happening?

The entire media would have to "go rogue" against the Deep State, otherwise the ones that remained loyal would be used to minimize the ones who break ranks. "Fake news" right now is just a pre-season game.

I dunno, RA. Let's imagine, for example, that the Washington Post reporter who reported General Flynn's talks with the Russian ambassador had instead passed the identity of the leakers on to the President and the Department of Justice, knowing that the only way the leaks could have occurred was an illegal surveillance of Flynn. Might have been really interesting to know what those nine people would have said to reduce their prison time, no?

I'm thinking that a couple cases like that would put the fear of God into the deep state.
