The Occam's Razor explanation would be he didn't take on the swamp because, at heart, he is part of it.
The firing of Jeff Sessions is a clear case of Gerrymandering, which explains why the South lost the civil war.
It will be interesting to see the pickle the Democrats find themselves in as they glorify his greatness as AG only to have to vilify him when he runs for his old seat in AL in 2020.
