Despite still maintaining male genitalia, a Leavenworth County District Judge ruled last month to Manning's official name change without any opposition from the US Army, all presumably at taxpayer expense.Worth every penny.
As cited by Health.com, the total cost of sexual reassignment surgery ranges from a total of $40,000 to $50,000 for "mid-range transition, including surgery." Not ending there, the cost of hormone therapy ranges from $25 to $200 per month, "depending on which hormones are prescribed."

My brother has been receiving excellent care and service from the VA hospital and staff in Columbia, MO the last two years. They are monitoring him for the right time when risks and benefits say it's time to replace a heart valve, resection an aneurysm and re-open a clogged artery. They're not stalling him, his surgeon is the chief chest-cracker and he is getting regular exams. Last week he called for an appointment on Thursday and was meeting with the surgeon Monday morning. One can only hope that the level of care and attention he is getting is the standard and not the exception for the VA.
