I always liked Graham Parker's "Stick to Me". You appear to be missing some Ian Dury and the Blockheads from your alt-brit list; an ironic "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards" would seem to fit well these days, right before we all line up to hit them with our rhythm sticks.

Yeah, Ian Dury is definitely missing. I had a friend in college who had a copy of "Juke Box Dury" (on cassette!) that I used to borrow. One of these days I'm going to hunt that down (it's out of print, I think) or something similar, because I need some Reasons To Be Cheerful.

Mine has nothing to do with Fascism (unless you want to do some rearranging and omitting):

Last Five
Stars – Soft Revolution
Wilco – At Least That’s What You Said
Stereophonics - Dakota
The Beatles – Nowhere Man
Freedy Johnston – Bad Reputation

Next Five
DeVotchka – Transliterator
Ben Folds – Free Coffee (“Now that I’m rich I get free coffee” – that there is the essence of Capitalism however)
The Sundays – Here’s Where The Story Ends
Julie Delpy – An Ocean Apart (from fantastic movie “Before Sunset”)
Radiohead – Street Spirit

Nope, just good ol' fashioned capitalism in that list, Amanda. And I'm happy to report that I've actually heard most of the songs on your list. The only one that has me stumped is that the DeVotchka one.

And since the music never stops in my office, current song is "Vanishing Point" by New Order.

have you seen the sequel to Before Sunset?
equally as good. the two share a place on my all time top 10 list.

yeah, i actually blogged one a while back.

mark: at least you got two good ones on that list. i'm sure you can guess what one of them is.

Well Gino, I like all of them, which is why they are on my iTunes at work. But I'd guess you think the list goes downhill after the first three, right?
