The judge overseeing the bankruptcy of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis expressed concern Thursday over the legal fees being racked up in the case — about $15 million to date.Lawyers are expensive. And litigiousness is extremely expensive. Many moons ago, I worked for a law firm and I saw how bankruptcies are handled. You can rack up a lot of fees. Meanwhile, the victims wait.
“It bothers me so much that all these attorney fees are being run up,” U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Kressel said at a hearing Thursday, adding that legal fees are consuming funds that could be directed to survivors of archdiocese clergy sex abuse.
In an attempt to curb the spending, Kressel ordered that no expert witnesses be hired for the time being. He also ordered a tighter schedule for both parties to argue their legal objections to each other’s compensation plans.

We were looking at bankruptcy once upon a time. Someone recommended we see such-and-such a lawyer about the situation because he was really helpful. We made an appointment, went to see the guy in his downtown Minneapolis office, talked for about 45 minutes. We were still talking about whether or not to go that route and use the guy two days later when we received a bill for $200 for his "initial consultation." We were thinking we couldn't afford bankruptcy.

basically, a lawyer will assess how much you got in assets, and thats how much his services will cost before its over.
an attorney on a radio show in LA even came out and said as much. lol
