Baseline

So we're clear -- apparently the claims of a current and former official, both anonymous, regarding what happened with Trump and the Russians last week, are more valuable than an on-the-record denial from H. R. McMaster, Trump's national security adviser, who was in the room when the conversation took place.

This is the world we live in.

Maybe rephrase it; "apparently the felonious leaks of a current and former official, issued anonymously, ....are more valuable than an on-the-record denial".

of course, they are more valuable to the common cause of destroying Trump by any means necessary.

Trump needs to fight back, and i suggest using the weaponized IRS as a starting point. Obama left some tools. use them.

Nah, no more crimes because of crimes, Gino. Find out who a few leakers are, put them in prison honestly for a long, long time, and see what happens to the leaks. Also deal with the question of why they're leaking. Often it is just partisan skullduggery, and it's hard to deal with that, but sometimes, leakers are simply saying "there is a lot of important stuff out here that is not penetrating our 63 levels of management."

Here’s the problem, gents — we don’t know what we know.

Bubba, we don’t know that the leakers committed a felony. Presumably they did, but we aren’t sure whether what they leaked is anything more than third-party, or even fourth-party, hearsay. The only thing we can reasonably surmise is that WaPo ran with the story because it fit the narrative. McMaster is steadfast in his denials, but Trump’s actions, including his usual morning Tweeting, doesn’t clarify matters in the least.

As for Gino’s point, I’m queasy about using the IRS as a weapon, too. I’d rather fire Koskinen for cause and then start prosecutions there, with Lois Lerner at the top of the list. To my knowledge, Obama did not give her a pardon, so she can be prosecuted. Sessions needs to get started on that right away. Once the facts are established, then Trump can use what’s learned to start to defang the organization.

It’s possible that Trump has a plan, but he’s so mercurial in his ways that we can’t make sense of it. And while that’s a useful approach in dealing with enemies, it’s not helpful if you’re trying to build support for your policies.

but what to do about the reporting? this man needs a fair chance to do his job and the media wants him out by any means.

maybe i'm taking this too personal? we need to change the economic structure in this country and he's the only one who's even bringing it up. my future, and people like me, are dying... physically and economically.

opposition to Trump is opposition to the working class and support of heroin traders.

i understand your desire for rule of law and such, but we are beyond that now. i'd rather see Learner and Koskinen fall out of a 50 story building because they will NOT be prosecuted, and you know it.

Mark, the trick about a felony is that part of the leak is apparently about knowledge of U.S. agents among ISIS, which would be top secret. So unless the source is authorized to release that information--meaning more or less authorized specifically by Donald Trump--I'd be very surprised if it were not. The bigger trick is figuring out who did it.

Gino, it's worth noting that an article came out today noting that a top Democratic staffer murdered recently in the District may be a source of the WikiLeaks information that helped sink Hilliary's campaign. If people can connect the dots--big if of course--we could be seeing something that would gradually let the slime out of the swamp. A prosecution of Lerner and Koskinen would be very helpful for that, too.

Really, a lot of this resembles little so much as the fight against the Mob. You get the little guys to eventually talk with witness protection and then you prove you can keep them breathing.

No bubba... Trump Nation needs to start working wet. We are in a struggle. More Lives will be lost before its over but why should my side do all the dying?

Bike Bubba said...

What is working wet? Urban Dictionary and google-fu are not working today.....

Try the term "wetwork." And I can't see it as a reasonable option.

Niether did Seth Rich or Vince foster ... But Comey saw the wisdom.

There is a coup d'etat going on in plain sight. This is about to get ugly.

Gino said...

You meant uglier.

I'm no endorser of violence, but it does strike me that Gino has a point about it getting uglier, not just ugly. From the non-indictment of Hilliary to ICE to the BATFE, the ugly reality is that DC seems to have developed a culture that quite simply doesn't give a rip about what their actions do to people outside the Beltway, and people are catching on.

He is also correct that the murder of Seth Rich suggests that the FBI should be taking part in the investigation, as Rich appears to have been a WikiLeaks source partially responsible for the world knowing what a creep Hilliary Clinton is. I do have to wonder if Comey sending out the memo, but failing to provide it to the DOJ, specifically is to deal with this kind of thing.

No, I meant what I meant. A cold civil war may get hot soon.
