Market Basket

A tisket, a tasket, deplorables in a basket:
Hillary Clinton told an audience of donors Friday night that half of Donald Trump's supporters fall into "the basket of deplorables," meaning people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic.

In an effort to explain the support behind Trump, Clinton went on to describe the rest of Trump supporters as people who are looking for change in any form because of economic anxiety and urged her supporters to empathize with them.

"To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables," Clinton said. "Right? Racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it."

She added, "And unfortunately, there are people like that and he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric."
She's a charmer. I wonder what the overlap is between the basket of deplorables and the binders full of women.

The good news is that the rest of Trump's supporters aren't deplorable, but suffering from economic anxiety. Gee, given that Mrs. Clinton's former employer believes things are "pretty darn great," why would anyone have any anxiety? Ah, but Clinton has an explanation:
Shifting to the other half of Trump supporters, Clinton said many of those people feel like the government doesn't care about them and who just want change in any form.

"That other basket of people are people who feel that government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures. They are just desperate for change. Doesn't really even matter where it comes from."
She continued, "They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead end. Those are people who we have to understand and empathize with as well."
I wonder what Clinton means when she says the people in the other basket won't wake up. Maybe an enterprising reporter might ask.

not enough is being made of the heroin epidemic. i'm shocked she mentioned it since its one of those open border ills, and heroin smugglers are acting out of love... oh wait, wrong brahmin... jeb!/hillary! are easy to mix up.

in the past 14 months, two of my wife's friends lost grandsons to heroin, and a personal friend of mine is just now emerging from rehab with a hard fought, new start in life.

i wonder what basket i'm in. maybe, i dont care. unless Trump wins, nothing will change.

"And you know what I'm talking about."

I remember when Mitt Romney said 51% of the population would never vote for him because they were addicted to government handouts. Man, we heard about that for weeks! "Deplorable" sounds like so much "macaca" to me.

What I find interesting is the "better half" of Trump supporters-- the ones concerned about the economy, etc. Isn't the reasonable question why those folks support Trump? Surely, if Hill is going to get government to "care about" those folks, they should be supporting her, right? Wouldn't it be great to know what her plan is to do that, beyond putting coal miners out of work and letting illegals take the rest of the jobs?

jerrye: she's had 25yrs to establish a track record on the border and jobs protection. why would she start that now?

Because, by the old liberal double standard, she must be appraised based on her (unfortunately not even stated) good intentions. Trump on the other hand, must be graded based on what Hillary and her ilk SAY he will do. Really, I like my information first hand, from the horse's mouth rather than the opposite.

Gino, I'd love to hear something from you about your wife's friends' grandsons, and why they succumbed to heroin. I've had morphine a time or two after surgery, and I just don't get it. Maybe you don't know at all, though, if even the young men involved did.

RA: 47%, I believe. Agreed that instead of saying "never will vote for me", Romney should have said "now here's a better deal for you than dependency".

Yes, Romney spoke the unguarded truth, just as Hillary has. One of the reasons Romney's comment was upsetting was that all Social Security recipients, included in that number, believed that they paid for those benefits. He should have been more "nuanced" in his assessment, just as Hillary should have said "a few" instead of "half."

I agree Romney should have emphasized the "better way," but Hillary made clear that any American that disagrees with her is irredeemable. That's deplorable.
