I shepherd my church's Sunday School program--stuff like this, where guys pass background checks but turn out this way (I anticipate it's going to be a lot grosser before all is done investigating), is just a nightmare. My next door neighbors were molested by a teacher in about this way when I was a kid--I may have helped blow things open after telling my parents about some odd behavior by one of the victims, who was my babysitter at the time.
I'm guessing my take on the first paragraph is about the same as yours--there is a reason that the Scouts prohibit adults sharing tents with boys.
