Minneapolis is burning

I don't know anyone who isn't sickened by what the Minneapolis police did to George Floyd. There should be righteous anger about it. However, this isn't righteous. Images from the Daily Mail:

A man has been shot dead outside a pawn shop after protests over the death of George Floyd descended into chaos Wednesday night and rioters smashed up stores across the Minneapolis. Pictured: A man poses for photos in front of a fire at an AutoZone store
Burn baby burn
Nor is torching an apartment building under construction:

One shocking video showed what was reported to be a new apartment building on fire as rioters stood and watched some distance away
No way to live
Nor is grabbing smokes:

Looters raided scores of stores, including a tobacco outlet. One man was seen looking delighted as he emerged from the store with piles of packs of cigarettes
The pause that refreshes
At least the looters are wearing masks, right? That should please Mayor Frey.

Masks will make identifying perpetrators more difficult.

i watched the video. It was a plain case of murder with 'special circumstances' (torture), and three accessories to said murder.

that said, I find one thing unusual in this case. Normally the police start releasing/leaking to their jock sniffers in the media every thing their victim had done in the past, or some way to slime the victim's family.
it's been a few days now, and still nothing.
trust me, if this man had so much as a jaywalking ticket or 'social disturbance' call in his distant past, we'd likely know about it by now.

The masks were certainly convenient in this instance.

I noticed the silence about Floyd’s past as well, Gino. That means there isn’t much of a past, most likely. The guy worked as a club bouncer, but he was out of a job because of the lockdown. He had a big dude, but in the video I have seen he wasn’t violent. MPD is an unusually bad department.

That should read “he was a big dude”

As Gino pointed out the vilification of the victim has begun. I think the prosecutor said this today.

Hennepin Co. Attorney Freeman:
“That video is graphic and horrific and terrible and no person should do that. But my job in the end is to prove that he violated a criminal statute, and there's other evidence that does not support a criminal charge... I will not rush to justice.”

IMO all this statement will do is expand the destruction of property and make the resolution even more difficult.

Actually, I read a report on Wednesday, I believe, of Floyd's background. Five years in prison for armed robbery when living in Houston, but also accounts from employers and friends here that he'd been doing well since moving to Minneapolis.

You have to take so much salt with every report on every side that it's a wonder we don't all have coronaries.

Odd, but according to the ME, Mr. Floyd most likely died of a massive coronary, rather than being choked. He had severe cardiac problems, exacerbated by stress and possibly (TBD), by drugs.

Those clamoring for the officer to be arrested and charged already have their desired result, but now the demand is he be charged with 1st degree murder, not third. Nothing, of course, will stop paid thugs from rampaging and destroying, supposedly "their" communities, but if it prevents them from the "cover" of those demanding "justice," it might be worth doing. I say, go ahead and raise the charge to first degree. That cannot possibly be proven in court and the cop will get off scott free. Not desirable, but a little karma for those moving the goalposts.

Now that AG Elison is in charge of the investigation, we'll probably find out that the officer, heck probably the whole MPD, are members of the Klan and should be disbanded. And the city must pay huge monetary damages to Antifa.
