Phillies rally to top Mariners, 9-8

Another strong rally meant another victory for the Arden Hills Phillies, as they topped the Mariners 9-8 at Island Lake School in Shoreview. The Phillies cobbled together a strong four run fourth-inning, overcoming an 8-5 deficit to take the lead. Strong relief pitching then cooled the Mariner bats and the Phillies hung on to win. My favorite Phillie was 0-2, with a walk, stolen base and run scored. He also nearly took this correspondent out with a vicious line drive toward my post in the 1st base coaching box. We’ll have to have a chat with the boy about that….

The Phillies’ record now stands at 6-5-2. This game marks the beginning of a busy baseball week, as the Phils next face the last-place Giants at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at Cummings Park in Arden Hills, followed by a rematch with the red-hot Twins at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Perry Park. These two contests are especially important for playoff seeding as the tournament nears. Watch this space for updates!
