Not sure if

this makes Congress any more slimy than it already is:
Disgraced ex-South Carolina governor Mark Sanford won his bid for redemption on Tuesday night, defeating Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch for his old seat in Congress.

Sanford, a Republican who admitted an extramarital affair in 2009, was ready to quit politics for good if he was not victorious in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. He will replace Republican Tim Scott, who was appointed to the Senate.
One thing seems clear -- it takes more than being a comedian's sister to win a seat in Congress in South Carolina. No word on whether the victory party took place on the Appalachian Trail, either.

I've been ambivalent about a lot of elections--I don't think I've voted FOR a Presidential candidate, ever (I was too young in 1984)--but this one ranks right down there with the one in Louisiana with Edwards vs. David Duke. The Wizard vs. the Lizard, and who would have thought that the state that rejected a (theoretically former) Klansman could do even worse?

But they did. Hopefully Mr. Sanford has some repentance going.

The only difference between Sanford and half of those Washington Scumbags (who incidentally come from both sides of the aisle) is that Sanford's actions have been made public. I guess if you want to elect a democrat in a stongly traditional republican area, you're going to have to do better than sending your sister in to do the dirty work.

I still can't see how a campaign against Sanford couldn't have been successful. If I'm running against him, the music from the old hit TV Show Sanford & Son would have become a top ten hit in South Carolina, with a tag line about not electing junk!

Gerrymandering at work.

Loved Iowahawk's take on Meghan McCain tweeting "Mark Sanford is what is wrong with American politics."

His response: Meghan McCain, if it wasn't for politicians cheating on their wives, you wouldn't exist!"

R.A., I saw that. Another reason why Iowahawk is a genius. That's a world-class putdown.
