For what it's worth

A few random thoughts on Good Friday:

  • Much of the discussion concerning the Trayvon Martin case has concerned whether or not George Zimmerman uttered a racial slur during the course of his conversation with 911. CNN (via Legal Insurrection) has a new enhanced version of the recording (it's NSFW, by the way). Listen for yourself. And as always, think for yourself.
  • The White Earth tribe was back yesterday with a version of a proposal they made before: let us build a casino in the metro area and we'll pay for the state's "portion" of the Vikings stadium. Only one problem -- there will be scorched earth from the metro-area tribes to oppose this idea. I haven't written as much about the Vikings lately because nothing has really changed -- the only goal is to push the proposal across the finish line and start construction. All the financing mechanisms aren't going to pay for this thing, but no one has the cojones to tell the Vikings that they can't have what they want, so we'll continue to pretend that charitable gaming, or something, will pay for this thing.
  • Michael Brodkorb is still planning to sue the Senate, for something or other. Go home, Michael.
  • If this story from Yahoo Sports is accurate, and the tape is authentic, you can stick a fork in Gregg Williams.
  • If you didn't know it before, even the New York Times is admitting something that even math-challenged liberal arts guys like me understand: you can buy a hybrid car or a Chevy Volt if you'd like, but if you're buying it to save money, you're not going to save anything

It's actually worse. I took a look at Edmunds' comparison, and they were not comparing like cars. The Prius, for example, was compared with the Camry. Now whatever the virtues of each car, a Prius is not--in style, acceleration, handling, etc..--the equivalent of a Camry.

So you forget about the subsidies, compare apples to oranges.....and then by golly the numbers look OK!

To put it mildly, Edmunds did NOT do themselves proud with that one.
