Trump did the right thing, at the time, when the right thing needs to be done: before Joe spends anymore cash defending himself.
meanwhile... McCain, Ryan, and many others are displaying a level of rage they never showed when the previous administration effectively pardoned Hillary, Lerner, Kostikon (wtf his name is) and many others... for far more serious crimes that undermine our system... and it is telling.
I don't think I'm "fighting" anyone. My concern is making more enemies in the judiciary when it wasn't necessary to do so to accomplish the objective. Your mileage may vary.
Possibly would make enemies all over, but Trump gets new enemies for breathing. If your analysis of the situation is correct--that Arpaio would have gone through the wringer on faulty case--it's exactly what pardons are for, to rein in an out of control judiciary.
Trump is lifting the lid on the cesspool, that's for sure. I just don't know if he can measurably drain it.

I agree with your second paragraph.
