Axiomatic

None too subtle:
Jubilant Republicans pushed on early Wednesday to the verge of the most sweeping rewrite of the nation's tax laws in more than three decades, a deeply unpopular bill they insist Americans will learn to love when they see their paychecks in the new year. President Donald Trump cheered the lawmakers on, eager to claim his first major legislative victory.
Emphasis mine. It's unpopular because it's said to be unpopular. If you ask most people about the tax bill, they'll not be able to tell you why this dislike it, unless they are accountants. So we'll watch and see.

If I understand the basics of the bill correctly, my family will get to keep a rather large chunk of money. Last year I voted against the media. In the coming year I might vote for Republicans. I'll definitely vote for Trump again.

Just like "net neutrality". I had a commenter say, "The majority oppose this". My response was "the majority don't even understand it, and haven't read anything beyond the headlines."

The thing I like about the bill is that it does cut taxes and give corporations an incentive to bring profits home and invest here profitably. That is goodness. What I don't like is further dependence on the child tax credit as opposed to a bigger dependent deduction--I view the latter as essential as Socialist Insecurity and Mediscare collapse. You've got to make it pay to take care of your parents and such. I also don't like the fact that a lot of cuts are temporary--uncertainty hurts economic growth as much as do taxes.

I give the GOP a B on this one. Will it affect how I vote? Probably not; I've been happy to vote against the butchers of the unborn, and those who would render citizens defenseless against their government butchers, for a long time. Actually voting for the GOP will require them to get an A not only in taxes with more big cuts, but also with spending--I'm tired of forcing kids flipping burgers to pay for the Teslas coming through the drive through and such.
