Are you not entertained?

Bill Maher makes a joke about wishing Glenn Beck dead.

Sean Penn suggests that would like his critics to "die screaming of rectal cancer."

Should we be outrageously outraged at this outrageousness? Nah. I think the better course is to let our entertainers keep talking and sharing their wise, reasoned counsel. And in Penn's defense, he did go to Haiti and help out, so it means he is capable of compassion for at least some sectors of humanity. Just maybe not for you.

I'm not a fan of wishing people dead, or wishing mortal illnesses on people. It's mean, and it just distracts from the issue one is trying to defend, by making one look like an ass.

However I do find it ironic that a supporter of the Republican party should bemoan a lack of compassion for any humans on the planet. The Democrat agenda is about helping those in need, Mr. D - ACORN is a great example of this. Whereas Conservative Republicans (with that I mean literally the politicians and the media, not you personally, or actually any of the Republicans in my life) are about supporting the people who keep the needy people needy - the agenda to destroy ACORN is a great example of that.

That's quite a charge, Amanda. Why do Republicans do this? In what ways do they benefit from keeping people down? Who are these people and why are they doing these terrible things?

We need specific examples of such behavior, Amanda. It's time to bring these heartless bastards to justice! Who are they? Since it's not me (so far as you know), I need to know who's doing those horrible things so I can avoid them. I need names! Let's not pussyfoot around and throw a general J'accuse. We'll never get justice if we just assume they are some shadowy figures with Snidely Whiplash mustaches, cavorting in their vaults like Scrooge McDuck!Let's name and shame 'em! Who's with me!

Let me see... the richest man in America is Warren Buffet. He must be a rat bastard Conservative Republican, right? And George Soros, he's clearly a paragon of the moneyed classes -- must be a Conservative Republican! Or Ted Turner -- he's got a pile. He's clearly keeping 'em down, too!

So is it compassionate for the vacuous hamsters in the Democrat party to ensure poor people keep sucking on the government teat?

Not especially. But it can be lucrative, especially for ACORN, which gets billions of dollars for their "services," which apparently include some of the career advice they gave to O'Keefe and Giles and that was subsequently broadcast to great effect by one of those evil proto-Republicans, Andrew Breitbart.

But maybe we should define "needy" a little better. Are we talking about the poor? Or are we talking about people who have trouble coping with life generally?

Or are we talking about the ACORN folks who employed and subsequently helped to elect Mark Ritchie, who later played a pivotal role in getting Al Franken to the Senate? Al is needy, and they got him a job!

Amanda, please read Mr. D's later post, "The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks" and then review the second paragraph of your comment to this post.

I'm honestly curious about how you think all of this compassion will be paid for, and how you think America can put into effect the Obama policies and not end up in the same situation as Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal -- and, soon enough, Germany?

Is it by taxing the rich? According to the study published in USA Today last week, public sector employees earn more for doing similar jobs (and with richer benefits) than private sector employees. And speaking of benefits, most of the "Cadillac" health plans belong to unions and government employees...groups that were just exempted from having to pay the luxury tax on these plans.

Is the solution to raise taxes, when the top 1% already pays 95% of all income taxes (via 2007 IRS numbers and the NY Times)? That may be an argument, but what if they paid 99% of all taxes? What good does it do if the government spends 150% of what it takes in?

WBP and Mr. D, and all - I am not being provocative just for laughs, and now I see that this comment has been referenced in a couple other posts! Okay, well, I have been hit and miss on the blogosphere lately, due to being quite busy on the homefront, and haven't been revisiting threads as reliably, but I will try to sit down soon and comment more here, and there, to explain what I mean.
