Within days of becoming president, Obama removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office. This, followed by Obama’s odd choice of gift to Brown — a box of DVDs including Psycho and Toy Story — prompted speculation of something deeper. In his memoir, Obama writes of how his grandfather was beaten by British troops in colonial Kenya.
A senior official from No 10, who was in Washington in December for Obama’s big speech on Afghanistan, was horrified that the president did not once mention Britain in the 45-minute address despite the presence there of 10,000 British troops.
British diplomats recently complained to the State Department over the handling of the Falklands dispute with Argentina. Although the US position of neutrality has not changed, Hillary Clinton, the secretary of state, endorsed the Argentine president’s call for talks on sovereignty while visiting Buenos Aires. A State Department spokesman responded to a question about the Falklands by saying: “Or the Malvinas, depending on how you see it.”
The British can have a chat with Abe Foxman over the realization that He's Just Not That Into You. And they'll have company -- from the article:
London is not alone in feeling snubbed. In July last year Obama received an open letter from 22 prominent central and eastern Europeans, including Vaclav Havel and Lech Walesa, expressing their concern over his policy of wooing Russia.
He managed to offend Poland and the Czech Republic with his clumsy handling of the scrapping of missile defence agreements last September. The announcement, partly to appease Russia, came on the 70th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Poland.
At the Copenhagen summit on climate change, European leaders expected to have a big say, having led the way on environmental legislation. Instead they were left out of the room while Obama cut a deal with China, India, Brazil and South Africa.
The most recent recipients of the Obama brush-off were the Spanish, who were curtly informed that Obama would not be attending the annual European Union-US summit in Madrid in May, something Bush did. When Jose Luis Zapatero, the Spanish prime minister, came to Washington after the cancellation, he was not even granted a private meeting with the president or vice-president. His only encounter with Obama was at the national prayer breakfast, an event attended by thousands.
Hey, look on the bright side, Europe -- at least you're rid of that despicable cowboy Chimpy McHitlerburton.

but the people of europe love him, right?
because he read english words off a teleprompter in germany, or something like that?
I am confused about this Chimpy McHitlerburton person you keep referring to. This is supposed to be GW Bush?
Mr. D, it's Republicans who call people "Hitler," not the other way around.

Amanda, do a Google search on Bush and Hitler. Then you can retract that statement.
Never mind, Amanda -- I'll save you the trouble.

i think thats where he won the election, right there.
Looks like someone has been taken to task once again.
Sooner or later she will realize her core values are quite conservative.

Can someone explain what any of this proves?
Thanks for the deep insights.
Can someone explain what any of this proves?
It proves that we tend to call each other names and that the Godwin Rule is alive and well.
But I'll promise you this much, anon -- if Obamacare gets crammed down our throats, comparisons to the odious German dictator will seem mild.
"Can someone explain what any of this proves?"
That Bush was compared to Hitler about 800,000 more times than Obama, via google results.
....
I will agree with Amanda in that she is very confused, uninformed, and obviously misinformed.
(all going according to the Liberal Fascist master plan. Bwwwwwaaaaaahahahahaaa!)
Is k-rod related to Sara Palin?
Anonymous, I've never heard of Sara Palin. What do you think you are talking about? Nonsense or are you just really confused? Kool-aid much?
Anon, I don't know if K-Rod is related to Sara Palin, or Sarah Palin, or Michael Palin. But he's a colleague of mine at another blog and has earned credibility here, even when I disagree with him.
You said: But I'll promise you this much, anon -- if Obamacare gets crammed down our throats, comparisons to the odious German dictator will seem mild.
Really? That hasn't happened already? On both sides? I really don't know what more could be said. That shark was jumped so long ago that the vile rhetoric from both sides has lost its efficacy.
I'd also add that the people fighting HCR will go nuts whether it passes or it doesn't. What will be more interesting to see is how they will act in the medium and long term. Opponents are pledging that they will repeal it if put in to position to do so. Aren't these the same guys who have violated promises to honor term limits? Just observe the way opponents of HCR fought it: by saying that they didn't want any government run healthcare while at the same time arguing for more funding for Medicare and threatening Medicare recipients with diminished benefits! Perhaps they haven't figured out that Medicare is a government run health plan. (Not to mention health care insurance for federal employees, Tricare for the armed forces and the VA system). Do you think the folks protesting the healthcare overhaul on the basis of not wanting the government involvement in their healthcare would be willing to give up their Medicare coverage and go out and buy their own health insurance from the "free market"?
I do believe this entire tape was run in the mid-60's over Medicare. Look how nuch everyone hates that.
And k-rod can do basic math! And he can take cheap shots at others, but but others can't make jest with him? Got it. Thanks.
Jest all you want, anon. But understand that since you are anonymous, you will get the gimlet eye. I know K-Rod and that counts for something.
I have always allowed anonymous posters here because I understand why people might want to remain anonymous. Having said that, you're a guest here and I don't have a lot of use for people who trash others and then hide behind a cloak of anonymity.
K-Rod isn't hiding; I know him personally. I have another commenter who signs in as anonymous, but ends up signing his comments anyway. He's a friend of mine and I have a lot of respect for him as well, even though we don't agree on much. And I'm always happy to hear from Amanda, even though we agree on very little, too.
As far as the rest of your post, I would simply suggest that Medicare isn't going to look so good in a few years. It's always been a Ponzi scheme and a train wreck, but for a variety of reasons people have planned their lives around it. As a result, no one is proposing to rip it out root and branch; you would have to remove it slowly and minimize the impact on the lives of those who do depend on the program, while simultaneously introducing something else for people on a going forward basis. There are a number of proposals extant for doing such things and you can find them if you care to look.
Obamacare, for what it's worth, isn't yet established and it could be removed root and branch in, say, 2013, once we've had an oppotunity to remove the Obama administration, root and branch. And if we don't do those things as a country, then we deserve all the consequences that will come, and they will. In the interim, I'm not going to just accept what is being done to me and my fellow citizens right now.
What Mr. D said.
As usual, Mr. D is spot on and quite eloquent.
And I would like to add that I appreciate Amanda's contributions even when they are completely wrong or outright false.
"And k-rod can do basic math!"
And calculus as well. *grin*
The integral of 'e' to the 'x' equals a function of 'u' to the 'n'.

I would link to some photos of the Tea Party protesters or some insane Beckian rantings, but you can Google them yourself.
So I don't retract anything. There was an argument awhile ago on this very blog (in the comments) about how Obama is a Socialist and the Nazis were National Socialists - ergo, Obama is a Nazi! And I would link to THAT if I could (had the energy to put forth the effort to) find it. Cast it off as a straw man if you want, but I wouldn't be so confident, in doing so.
In general I think it's lame when anyone calls ANYONE "Hitler" or "Nazi." For Goodness' Sake, isn't it great "Nazis happened" so the world has a reliably universal epithet to turn to in times of frustration. (#sarcasm) Personally, I think Bush meant/means to be a good person but he (1) lied and (2) allowed a lot of really bad things to happen. Thus, I hated him as a president and I don't think that being sarcastic about supposed epithets toward him from the Left dimisses his actual bad policies, his actual act of taking us to war, and his actual level of intelligence.
(Just explaining my random comment from last week, and my annoyance in general with people accusing people of being Nazis.)

"not the other way around"?
How uninform of Amanda, she probably didn't know anyone that voted for Bush, eh.
Mr. D takes her to task and sheds the light of truth on the matter.

Amanda admits her blind partisanship and blind adoration toward The Obama even when the fact clearly showed Amanda was WRONG.
