The Maltese Falsehood

Chad the Elder at Fraters asks a really great question:

Question for all those Catholics out there who voted for Barack Obama because--despite his clear and consistent views and record on abortion, stem cells, and other life issues--he would do more to help promote "social justice." You know people like Douglas Kmiec and other ProLife ProObama folks who claimed that being pro-life was more than just opposing abortion and anyway as president Obama would take actions that would "drastically" reduce the number of abortions.

More than a year into the Obama presidency, what exactly has President Obama done that in any way could justify your vote?

Go click the link, because Chad has run the numbers and they aren't pretty. But he does remind us of one undeniable benefit:

Douglas Kmiec got a sweet gig as U.S. Ambassador to Malta, but what about the rest of you?

Catholics represent one of many groups that bought in to the lies of Obama. What upsets me is the poor job that priests and church leaders do in reminding the flock about Church Positions. I'm not saying they should endorse certain candidates, but they should be making sure that people are completely aware of the Church's position on key issues.

i dont beleive any new catholics voted for obama who werent already inclined to anyway.

anybody who really was pro-life, and knew what that term means, wasnt fooled by the words of prolifeobama.

but, what they did so was give the obabm catholics talking points that sound good in a public forum. it allowed them to be public in their shame while denying the shame was taking place.

I think you're right, Gino. What people got was an excuse for doing what they were going to do anyway.

And you are spot on, Anon. The Church, especially in the U.S., tends to soft-pedal Church teachings. It's a big problem.

I disagree with Gino. I know many Catholics who took their social issues stance, colored it with Obama's false rhetoric on abortion, and used it to rationalize voting for the man. It was the only distorion Obama used to get their vote (actually it was one of many including pretending to be a moderate). I can't tell you how many times I heard the line "Obama will actually lower the number of abortions, and that there were actually less abortions during the Clinton administration."

anon: where is the disagreement?
