Charming

A little taste of what it was like in Michigan yesterday (NSFW):

It will be interesting to see if anything happens to the guy who attacked Steven Crowder.

A heavily edited video from a Breitbart devotee who was obviously there to stir up trouble...hmmm? And Crowder isn't interested in finding the guy or pressing charges. Seems a little fishy.

So you're okay with a guy punching him, then. Hmmmm.

Guess he totally had it coming, huh?

So the First Amendment doesn't apply to Breitbart devotees, then?

Guess he totally had it coming.

Is there now a required level of cinema verité beyond which violence is not justified?

Yep, he totally had it coming.

C'mon, we all know by now that, whatever else his qualities may be (and I trust that they are not insignificant) Rich is more partisan than ethicist.

I'm just shocked to find out that there are thugs in Michigan who are capable of punching someone. What is this world coming to?

Does anyone doubt that if the roles were reversed (say, an Americans for Prosperity worker punching an MSNBC reporter), the story and video would be national news?

W.B. Picklesworth said...

Of course it would be news, but that's a fantasy land, not America.

Mighigan? I bet Ndamukong Suh gets fined again.

As we learned after the Tucson, AZ shooting two years ago, it's conservative rhetoric which is responsible for violent actions.

In short, yes, Steven Crowder had it coming.

Mark,
what the hell are you talking about? Please show me where I advocated violence? Please do explain how or where I said I was OK with one guy punching another. Please tell me when I said that the First Amendment doesn't apply to Breitbart devotees. Honestly, have you lost your mind?

Picklesworth...you too: what in God's name are you talking about? I may be a partisan: I know very few who aren't. But where do you get off questioning my ethics? The people whose ethics need to be questioned are the Breitbart devotees whose MO is to routinely stage events, edit and redact video and audio tapes to present false and/or misleading versions of events. Break laws in attempts to drudge up incriminatig evidence about people they want to embarass, etc. And that is exactly what is happening here. The guy who swung at Crowder was flat on his back 3 seconds earlier, and swung as he was getting up. Of course, we didn't see that because (drum roll please...) the tape was edited and that was cut out. Typical!

This whole non-event is being ignored because these clowns have played this card too many times. Crowder and O'Keefe are the boy who cried wolf, and people without ideological blinders know it.

Witnesses to the entire event are saying Crowder pushed the guy to the ground. If that is the case, does the guy have a right to defend himself?

Experience tells me this whole non-episode is bullshit. I could be wrong, and so could you. But if you wanna keep it interesting, I would gladly take a friendly wager that the "puncher" never gets convicted of assault. And I wouldn't be surprised if charges are never filed against him.

Ethical indeed!

Rich

Advocate? No. Turning a blind eye to it? Perhaps.

"Witnesses" in this case would be a lefty blogger. The reporting from the other side is that the guy who punched Crowder was one of the people who were cutting down the tent and that Crowder and a few other people were trying to push the attacker and others away from the tent.

Crowder has contacted the Michigan state police about the matter. We'll find out what happens.

Here's the larger point, though -- "stirring up trouble" is a pretty slippery slope. Did Crowder and his people have a right to be there? Were they somehow in the wrong by being there? And did the union guys have the right to collapse the tent? Is that "stirring up trouble," Rich?

You're going to see what you want to see on this one. So will I. Bottom line is that there is video evidence that a bunch of union guys toppled a tent and knocked over the equipment of a guy selling hot dogs. There is also video evidence of a guy punching Crowder. I don't believe you're allowed to do such things, even if you perceive smart-asses and hot dog vendors as "stirring up trouble."
