Lord Have Percy

Not going to Seattle
So the Vikings shipped Percy Harvin off to Seattle yesterday. It's an interesting move, to put it mildly. Harvin might be one of the most talented football players on the planet, but he's also a head case without peer. Although we're not likely to get the real skinny on why Harvin was sent away, you can assume that it had something to do with the mysterious end of last season, in which Harvin essentially was gone from the team after an ankle injury.

The Vikings have had a long history of wide receivers with somewhat interesting personalities; in their own very different ways, Cris Carter and Randy Moss were troublesome personalities. You can get wide receivers who aren't divas -- the Packers have had a bunch of them in recent years. Still, Harvin is an exceptional player when he wants to play and it's tough to replace a guy like that. The Seahawks must believe that Russell Wilson can help Harvin get his head on straight. It will be interesting to see.

Now the Queens will go after Greg Jennings. But they will leave Brett in Mississippi.

Sign Jennings, surrender one of the firsts in compensation for signing RFA Cruz, and use the other first to draft Keenan Allen. I'd also look at signing FA Reggie Bush and having him work out of the slot 12 plays a game.

Getting a first, a third and a seventh for Harvin was a pretty good deal, given that his departure looked to be inevitable.

Crankbait where is all of the cap space going to come from to make all of those signings?

Yep, Winfield's money off the books, and Jared Allen and Kevin WIlliams have large contracts that can be restructured. Plus, I don't think Bush is going to be too expensive. He hasn't lived up to the hype out of college, but he has some skills and speed and would pose match-up problems for linebackers and safeties out of the slot and could take a hand-off or two. I don't see Jennings getting Wallace money, not at his age. Cruz could be a problem; they'd have to make an offer so big the Giants woudln't touch it (kind of like the Vikes did to Seatlle with Hutchinson years ago).
