Hunka hunka Bern

Lord almighty, feel the temperature rise:
Three weeks before Granite Staters head to the polls to select their favorites to be their parties' presidential nominees, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has built a commanding lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton among likely Democratic primary voters.

Sanders leads Clinton 60 percent to 33 percent in the latest WMUR/CNN New Hampshire Primary Poll, with former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley at 1 percent and 6 percent undecided.

The University of New Hampshire Survey Center conducted the poll Jan. 13-18 among 420 likely Democratic primary voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.8 percent.
This result isn't particularly astonishing. Hillary Clinton is a human dumpster fire at this point in her career. My guess is that most people realize she's corrupt and while the MSM would prefer not to discuss the matter, the multiple scandals she's involved with have to be taking a toll on her popularity. And since those who propose to rob Peter to pay Paul invariably have Paul's support, Bernie Sanders is going to be a good bet for the Party of Envy.

Back in '08, Barack Obama promised Hope and Change. In this cycle, Bernie Sanders is proposing money and revenge. All Hillary Clinton has ever promised is careerism, but only her own. That's not a bandwagon most people will want to climb aboard.

Now that's harsh! Can't we all just get behind Hillary until AFTER she gets the nomination? Easier to defeat a known corruptocrat than an unknown Socialist?

It's not what we want, Jerry. Ol' Bernie is pure id, the avenging angel that the Left so desires, the rumpled redeemer who will bring succor to the masses by taxing the crap out of the kulaks. Hillary is pure superego, a giant can of spinach in a pantsuit, an unholy amalgam of the assistant vice chair of the League of Women Voters and Evita Peron.

We cannot participate in this morality play. We can only watch.

Admirably and almost poetic, but I was being more practical. The object of the game is to get a Republican, ANY Republican, into the WH this time around. I remember well how a "blank slate" in '08 was preferred over Madame Hillary. He fooled enough people to get elected and do untold damage. I don't want another "unknown" that people can imagine as producing the miracles his Socialism promises. I don't know I have any influence among that rainbows-and-unicorns crowd, but I can at least hold my criticism of Hillary until September.

A population that can elect Barack Obama twice can certainly elect Bernie Sanders. Whether we hold our fire on Hillary won't much matter.

That's my point. It may not matter much, but I would think Republican chances are better with "damaged goods" Hillary than with lovable ol' Bernie. I suppose the Left will ignore our criticism or lack thereof regardless-- they ignore reality very well-- but I would like to think I tried. You don't fire all your ammo in the first skirmish.

I don't have any ammo, Jerry. At least none that can hurt the Democrats.

I get your point. So do the Dems. I am certain that there are a lot of conversations going on right now about Hillary's viability. Given that many on the Left don't like the Clintons anyway, I'm guessing we'll only see a limited effort to protect her as the evidence piles up. If it looks like Bernie can make the sale in places other than New Hampshire, they might let it play out. If not, we could see them wheel out some combination of Biden and/or Elizabeth Warren.

It will certainly be interesting to watch the small pragmatic faction duel it out with the larger fantasyland delegation. Biggest question in my mind is how much disregard and rewrite of the law and rules will be involved getting Biden on the ticket, rather than either? Or, alternatively, how many really believe either Sanders or Clinton can win?

Democrats don't worry about things like that — a party that can sub out Frank Lautenberg for Bob Torricelli a month before the election and elect a dead Mel Carnahan and muscle through his wife for an open Senate seat will have no trouble finding enough malleable officials to get Biden, or anyone else they want, on the ballot. Rules are for other people.

Exactly the examples I had in mind. I suppose we can stand back in awe of their perfidy? As entertaining as any other bad horror movie, I suppose, but without the gratuitous brief nudity (please)!
