Mostly open thread

Plenty to write about, but I got so busy reading this morning that I've run out of time. A few random thoughts to get us started:

  • Milwaukee Brewers fans haven't had much to be proud of over a long and sorry history, but this year's team looks like it could make it back to the World Series for the first time since 1982. We've been talking about 1982 a lot lately, it seems.
  • The Creepy Porn Lawyer isn't helping the Democrats very much, is he?
  • We're in the middle of a four-day rainstorm. This hasn't been the worst autumn I can remember, but it's right up there.
The floor is yours.

Good for the Brewers, even though they broke my heart by beating the Cubbies. And Avenatti? If I were on the left, I'd be sending him a note every day saying "please get off my side--can't you have an ordinary midlife crisis and just get a Mustang and a new wife, and leave us alone?" I had the thought that Avenatti actually would have something relevant, and he presented us with more or less "I heard rumors and they could mean something." Just.freaking.embarrassing.

And really, the thought that a lawyer for a washed-up prostitute/porn "actress" could be seen as some kind of advocate for women....it's as bad as Bill Clinton going on tour telling us how horrible it is that he was called to account for how he treated Monica Lewinsky, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broadrick, Jennifer Flowers, and a host of others....again, this is the kind of "help" women want or need? Seriously?

Nikki Haley is stepping down as UN ambassador.
am i the only one that sees her positioning for 2024?

She's definitely a viable candidate. But 2024 is a long way out. What is she going to do in the meantime? I say that with curiosity because I'm assuming there is some important post that she'll be taking up.

Haley is probably headed for the private sector for a while. Make some bank, then re-enter the fray. T-Paw tried the same thing, but he isn't nearly as nimble a politician. We'll be hearing from Haley again, but for now I'd guess she'll be low visibility for a time.

He's got to keep moving, because the financial wolves are at his door.

I'm wondering if the position Haley wants to indulge for a while is that of "Mom." Doesn't get much more important than that, but if she also does some things to earn a bit of money, that's fine with me, too.

Regarding Avenatti, given that he's going through a divorce, yes, I have to wonder if that's part of it. It doesn't seem as if the "cases" he's taking would end up with a lot of billable hours, but maybe Michael Cohen can return the favor and show us Avenatti's billing records, it might be really interesting who's paying him.

Or, for that matter, a rival faction in the FBI....
