A few modest proposals in re the Wisconsin Supreme Court Race

Just thinkin' out loud here:
  • If I were David Prosser, the first thing I'd do is have whatever legal team I've assembled look hard, real hard, at the college towns, places like Eau Claire, Menomonie, Oshkosh, etc. I'd look at same day registrations for college students and then compare the results to absentee ballots. I suspect you could find more 204 votes right there.
  • One thing that makes Wisconsin different than Minnesota in the Franken/Coleman election is this:  the state attorney general is J. B. Van Hollen, a Republican. As it happens, Joanne Kloppenburg works for Van Hollen. Van Hollen hasn't been doing much in the past 6-7 weeks, but he can do rather a lot now.
  • I'd also prosecute the crap out of anyone who is implicated in vote fraud. The only way to stop it is to make the price you pay for getting caught too onerous. Kloppenburg, as an officer of the court, should ostensibly be committed to making sure that election fraud does not take place. While the recount is ongoing, everyone involved should be asking Kloppenburg, every single day, about her commitment to free and fair elections.
  • Bottom line is this -- it's going to be very hard to overtun the results of the election, but Republicans can and should change the meaning of the election. It is absolutely crucial to make sure that everyone knows how Joanne Kloppenburg got 204 more votes than David Prosser. If there is any taint to the result, that must be known and understood. Would that make Kloppenburg's victory a poisoned chalice? Perhaps. Is it cynical to suggest such thing. Mais oui. But frankly, the Marquess of Queensbury stuff has to stop some time and this is a good time for it to stop
  • And on that note, one last thing:  isn't it long since past the time to throw Katherine Windels, the woman charged with making death threats against Republican state senators, in jail? It's time to go on offense and make the local politicos in Madison who are playing these games start defending their own decisions.

In reality, 4 busloads of Union Advocates that camped out in Wisconsin long enough to gain residency based on the state's very liberal registration rules is all it took to win an election in Wisconin. In reality, they probably didn't come in buses, but I think you get the point. All aame day registrations should be scrutinized with addresses checked for accurancy and actual residency.

In the end, Wisconsin's loose registration laws may have made the acts of the left "legal", but they should still be exposed.

In the end, 50% of the voting public has been fooled. With the vast majority choosing not to vote, it can hardly be called a mandate, but I agree that all of the due dilligence should take place. Giving any potential bad acts a free pass means that the tactics will be used again and again.

One last question: When is the last time any Republican in a State Wide race ever won a close election? Just sayin....

now you know why i gave up on voting and the process altogether...

when those whom i am most likely to support show the same commitement to result as the opposition, i'll reconsider my lack of commitment to them.

Gino to quote Rush "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice" By not voting at all, you are giving tacit support to your opposition. I'm sure you already know that, but I thought I'd point it out as a reminder.

The thing you have to remember is that while there is overlap, "Republican" and "conservative" are hardly synonymous. Which I suspect is Gino's point here.

anon: what mark said and in addition... why enter the ring and take the blows when you know the fight is rigged?

while you were all expending energy for a GOP agenda that wont happen, i was seeing some good movies, cuddling with wife and drinking extra beer.
my life is better for it.

yes, i've made a choice in choosing something else in which to spend my energy so as to reap rewards.

All of which is rational.

BTW, Prosser is now back in the lead. For the moment. More on that soon.
