Phillies victorious

The mighty Arden Hills Phillies won their first victory of the season with a 17-6 thrashing of the New Brighton Angels at Lambert Park. Clinging to a 7-6 lead after 2 innings, Phillies pitching tightened considerably and the team exploded for five runs in each the 3rd and 4th inning. Three Phillies made their pitching debuts yesterday and nearly everyone got into the action in some form or another, including a spectacular diving catch by one of the team's 3rd graders. Your correspondent's son had a tough day at the plate, going 0-3 and reaching base as a hit batsman in the 4th inning. That's the second time this year the intrepid youngster has taken a plunking, but that is the nature of Little League baseball among the younger set.

The overall Phillies record is now a balanced 1-1-1. There's a break in the schedule until Thursday, May 18, when the Phillies take the field at 6 p.m. against the Brewers at Silver Oaks Park in New Brighton. Be there - aloha.
