Lightning Round -- 010614

Quickly:

  • R. T. Rybak apparently is lucky he got quick medical attention. Hope a speedy recovery is on the way for him.
  • While the Packers continue to close the gap on the 49ers, there's still a gap and they aren't good enough. While they need to pursue getting some better players in key positions, especially on defense, the one thing I'd like to see them investigate in the off-season is the sports science regimen that Chip Kelly brought to Philadelphia. The Packers had an amazing number of injuries this year and lost some of their most important players to injury for long stretches of the season. The margin for error is small in the league and if they continue to have these problems, they're never going to get back to the promised land.
  • The biggest challenge this morning will be getting my car started, I think.
  • Congress and the president are coming back to Washington today. That would explain the chill.
  • CBS is finally starting to notice that "Cleantech" isn't doing so well. We'll always have alchemists.

the Bears got hammered by injuries to the D as well.

49ers are a strong team, but they'll be regressing soon. there are only so many times you can draft late before it has an effect.

the team you and i need to worry about is the Lions. they'll be getting a new coach to manage all that talent they've been wasting.

Gino, the Lions are still haunted by the curse of Bobby Lane. No franchise and their fan's have suffered more!

anon: that was a 50yr curse, wasnt it?

Offensively, I was pleased with the Packers' commitment to the run. Now we need the defense to develop. I'm beginning to wonder if it's less the players and more the Capers. I'm far from an expert, but it seems that at best we can cause turnovers, but we rarely impose ourselves.

It was a 50-year curse, but it's had outstanding staying power. Sounds like the Lions might hire Ken Whisenhunt, who is certainly a better coach than Schwartz.

Maybe the Lions need to find some grandkid of Bobby Layne and give him or her a job.

Matt stafford graduated from the same high school as layne and grew up on the same street. Isnt that good enough?

Based on 5 years of evidence, apparently not.

LOL...
yeah, the meltdowns are fun to watch, but with gym shorts gone, those may stop.
