No Joe

As you've almost certainly heard, Joe Biden has taken a pass on one last campaign. A few thoughts:

  • Biden is, and will always be, a hack. He wouldn't have won the primary campaign anyway.
  • Hillary Clinton isn't necessarily going to the be the nominee. The notion that it's too late to get into the race presupposes that a candidate must run the gauntlet to get the nomination of a political party. Are we sure about that? The Democrats are geniuses at finding replacement candidates at the last minute when they need one. They pulled Frank Lautenberg out of mothballs in New Jersey back in 2002, a month before the general election, when the stench of Robert Torricelli's scandals became too much. If the drips of scandal become too much, the Dems will find an alternative.
  • That Biden was seen as the one person who could derail Clinton tells you something about the bench strength of the Democratic Party. The folks on the debate stage last week looked like refugees from Madame Tussaud's, with the exception of Martin O'Malley, who projects the power and flavor of three-day-old church basement coffee. The next generation of Democratic leadership is, well, gone.

Obama: "Joe, I think you'd make a great president. You should run."
Biden: "Wow, that's a pretty big f'ing deal. I've learned a lot."
Obama: "What's the most important thing you've learned about being president?"
Biden: "To blame everything on the previous eight years of my predecessor!"
Obama: "You know, on second thought...."

the democrats had effectively emptied their bench with the nomination of Obama. nothing new in terms of ideas or substance exists, if it had for the 30yrs previous.

(the problem with the GOP in that time has been plenty of ideas, but not much in the way of will, so you still got status quo anyway.)

I'd dare say the bench is pretty thin these days on both sides of the aisle. I was wanting to support a neurosurgeon or a former executive, or somebody, and people are just screwing it up by saying some stuff that's just bat-poop crazy. They got Ivy League degrees and the equivalent and still say that kind of stuff? Yikes.

The one bright side to this election cycle is the commercials that you know are going to be made showing Russian, Chinese, and ISIS IT guys reading Hilliary's emails. Those might be good.

I think the Russians, Chinese and ISIS folks had probably already blocked Hillary's emails after all the fund-raising appeals.
