The blank screen wins

I started about a half dozen posts today, but I can't get my thoughts organized into something coherent enough to publish. So this becomes an open thread. What is on your mind?

If it wasn't obvious, the government has become dysfunctional because Democrats lack all common sense of what is good for the country. Today they voted against a measure that would have blocked federal funding for sanctuary cities that block federal immigration law. That may be their right, but they don't have a right to the funding and the Democrats should have "noticed" that small difference. They didn't. Whose side are they on, and what are they defending?

Well, they certainly aren't on your side. But that doesn't mean they aren't on the side of others. Maybe one of our problems is that our diversity is stretching farther than ever before? And the political class is representing this stretched electorate - or at least taking advantage of them.

So serious...

Today is the day that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to as "the future" in Back to the Future Part II. We do not have hoverboards, but we do routinely have video-based phone calls (though I avoid phone calls of every type myself.) Fashion is not as outlandish as predicted.

If you re-made the original Back to the Future today as movie in which Marty the teenager in 2015 travels back 30 years to 1985 and meets his parents, the people in 1985 would probably at least as surprised to learn the president of the United States was black as Doc Brown was to learn that it was the actor Ronald Reagan. (You could certainly get some mileage out of Governor Schwarzenegger.)

Marty probably wouldn't know how to use a pay phone, nor would he likely think of looking in a phone directory to find the younger version of Doc Brown. (Actually, I'm not sure how Marty--who would have been born around 1998 or so in this version--would manage to connect with Brown at all without the benefit of Google to access information or GPS to navigate.)

Instead of confusing the cafe owner with a request for diet soda, Marty might ask for something gluten-free.

Biff would drive a Camero, or possibly a Trans Am.

It would be hard to get away with playing Libyan terrorists for laughs.

Great Scott, Brian's right!

I assume you're accept bids for the rights to your "Back to the Future, Part II" remake you've nicely laid out. Well played.

Looks like the Mets are likely to prevent one of those predictions from coming true, sad to say.

Right, Cubs win the World Series! I forgot about that part.

I still have my fingers crossed for Jaws 19.

Hey Mr. D: whatever happened to your series on the city of New Brighton? I got a kick out of that and have always wondered where you were taking it. Are you planning to finish it?

Good question -- I have about 5-6 more topics to cover, but I haven't gotten back to it. I will be resurrecting the series at some point soon.
