Credit Where It's Due

The other day I praised the importance of plain speaking. In that spirit, hats off to President Obama for apparently calling Kanye West a "jackass." Too bad they felt it should have been off the record:

"In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."

Coulda been his Sister Souljah moment. Could still be. Fess 'up, Mr. President. No one in America is going to disagree with you on this one.

Wouldn't want to offend all the Kanye fans out there, now would we?

I doubt the Pres gave a rat's ass about that. It's just that he was off the record, and was using slightly off color language. And if you read what the reporter who leaked wrote, you would see why he didn't want the story repeated. She tweeted and went all snarky about how un-Presidential it was that he said jackass. She didn't even comment about the content of what he had said. And then, several of her counterparts tore her a new one for her breach of journalistic decorum.
I guess this is what happens when you are so self-absorbed and narcissitic that you walk around somewhere like the WH oblivious to everything around you as you tweet your every thought to people who are dumb enough to read it.
