Hello, 2013

Now that we've kicked 2012 to the curb, what can we expect in 2013? Let's make a few guesses:

  • In Minnesota, the DFL will try to impose its will. While we are hearing some conciliatory messaging from a few members of the leadership in St. Paul, there's a lot of pent-up demand for action. Since the Republicans aren't in a position to stop things and there's little chance that the DFL will face any adversaries in the local media, we'll see an interesting contrast between what happens in St. Paul and what happens elsewhere in the Midwest (cf. Madison, Lansing, Indianapolis).
  • Obamacare is due for implementation in 2013, but it's not going to go well. You'll see a lot of pushback at the state level (although not here in Minnesota) and as people start to realize what it actually portends, it's going to get ugly.
  • The economy will likely sputter and may end up going into recession. Rising taxes will not help.
  • The Supreme Court will strike down DOMA but will also strike down the Ninth Circuit's ruling on Prop 8. Californians will then begin work on repealing Prop 8 through the political process.
  • Things will get worse, a lot worse, in Syria.
  • Gun control will go nowhere.
  • The Bears and their many fans will come to regret the firing of Lovie Smith.
  • George W. Bush will still be responsible for every bad thing that happens.
Gee, that sounds cheery, now doesn't it? Feel free to post your guesses in the comment section!

I predict that evil and stupid will eventually lose, but that it will have a large lead at half-time.

I predict that President will eventually succumb to the inevitable blood clot that follows any executive branch colossal error that requires Senate hearings. while he recoups, Biden will hold a week long bake sale to help close the deficit.
