Have you seen the new Super Bowl rings for the Patriots?

Seriously, though, what is going to happen to the Patriots now that the Wells Report has come out? They're nervous in New England:
No one knows specifically what the Deflategate punishment will be for Tom Brady, but within Gillette Stadium they are bracing for the worst.

Sources with the Patriots I have spoken with tell me they are fearful of a lengthy suspension, perhaps in the six- to eight-game range, for Brady in the aftermath of the Wells Report.
I'm not sure what the appropriate response is, to be honest. What would you suggest?

They broke Seattle's heart, right? Give 'em another trophy.

I'm inclined to let the NFL home office take a 20% pay cut for next year and quit trying to pretend this is anything more than a game with some really, really fat paychecks attached to it. The nation's morality does not rise nor fall based on what a few of these athletes do (or don't do) on or off the field, nor should it. The whole thing is silly.

I don't know that you've got a provable case that Brady definitely knew--it's kinda like the DOJ going after Martha Stewart because the sell order had two colors of ink on it, really. You simply work to prevent it from happening again.

its the patriots. screw em.

Thought #2 is that the NFL loves this. Better ratings when everybody sits down to cheer for the Pats' opponents. Dollar signs baby.

The only thing that will make the NFL take action is a lack of green, and I'm not talking turf or grass.

Withhold 20% of the Patriots' share of the League's profits this season, and donate it to charities based in Indianapolis.

The NFL is officially a nonprofit, actually. See

So Pats are 100% on board with Brian's suggestion for obvious reasons. Now if you wanted them to squeal, 20% of their share of television revenues would be a start.

I should have said revenue rather than profits, and the teams (collectively) instead of the league.

Headlines on Fox:

1. Brady suspended

2. Nobody believes the suspension will be upheld on appeal.

I'm sticking with "the NFL is crying all the way to the bank" on this one. I'll be glad, but surprised, if someone proves me wrong.

4 games. Have to agree with Bubba -- this is laughing all the way to the bank. Didya happen to notice who the Patriots play in Week 5? Why, mirabile dictu, it's the Colts!

I want to know what the NFL did with all the kangaroos after the "trial"?

If this case ever comes before a real court, I think there will be a much different result. Sort of like what will happen in Baltimore, but with far more laughter and far fewer fires.

You know the difference between the NFL and the WWE?

The WWE is sometimes real.

True. Sometimes the outcome of a contest actually matches what you think would happen if it were "real." In this case, is there anybody willing to claim that this little change in ball pressure changed the outcome of the game?
