This just in

A wild and crazy guy
Ron Erhardt is an idiot:
Rep. Ron Erhardt, DFL-Edina, apologized Tuesday for delivering a meandering floor speech in which he donned a lab coat and stethoscope while alleging that avian flu can be transferred to humans who eat the meat of infected birds.
He's not the only idiot in the Minnesota legislature, but he appears to be the only prop comic in the lege, although I haven't checked to see if Gallagher is now a member.

Perhaps we can get Professor Irwin Corey out to primary his ass. "If we don't change direction soon, we'll end up where we're going."

from the land of Gov Ventura and Senator Smalley, i would expect nothing less.

(Rep Bachmann is nearly there, too)

Here's the statement from MDH:

I concede that the get-up was silly--and hey, the guy is a former Republican so nobody gets off scot-free here--but it's worth noting that what they say is "we haven't seen infection", and they admit that it may be possible for those in direct contact with infected birds.

Now maybe there is more there than you can put in the web page I cited, but it seems that caution, but not panic, ought to be had here.

Perhaps, Bubba. But Ron Erhardt has no idea about any of that. He was just being a jackass.

Far be it from me to assert that the behavior of politicians is not attributable to jackassery, and I would also have to guess that MDH is under-stating the case against transmission of this to humans simply to make sure we're more safe.

But that said, EEYAW on the tactics, but it appears that someone on his staff actually did read the MDH document.
