Denied!!!!

We got back from picking up my son from Tomahawk scout camp last night and I decided to check the ol' blog to see if anything had happened. And I got a note from Internet Explorer saying that access was denied. I wasn't sure if the Googlebots were on the loose again because someone had declared that any site with anti-Obama stuff on it was spam (this has been an ongoing problem for Blogger users). But that's not it.

According to the guys at Little Green Footballs, the problem is related to Sitemeter and those using IE7. Not sure what's happening with it, but if you want a workaround, the obvious one is to download a different browser like Mozilla Firefox. That's what I did. Or you could delete Sitemeter. Hopefully at some point the smart guys will figure out how to fix the issue. But if you are using IE7 as your browser, now might be a time to try something else....

The "push" of XP Service Pack (SP) 3 in Microsoft's auto-update program might be cause/effect of what is ailing our computers.

I got a dialog box "Internet Explorer can't open the internet site MDE Operation aborted" when visiting MDE or blognetnews.com/minnesota
Friday and Saturday.
At microsoft.com/windowsupdate I installed XP SP3 and separately upgraded from 10 to 11 Windows Media Player. No more problems.

And I did not even need to install any of the following updates (although at the finish of the SP3 update I was told they are recommended after a reboot):

Update for Windows Media Format 11 SDK for Windows XP (KB929399)
Security Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB936782)
Update for Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP (KB939683)
Security Update for Windows XP with Windows Media Format Runtime 9.5 and 11 (KB941569)
Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2008 (KB890830)

Microsoft Office 2003
Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Great work on your blog Mr. D. Thanks
